Essai de 300 mots sur le sport en général et les jeux olympiques
Sports has always been the symbol of very positive human values such as fraternity
and energy. Greek athletes were the symbol of the union and of the power of
the various Greek cities and the olympic games were a means to gather all of
them.
Indeed, sportsmen have always had the desire to reach new records and are like
modern heroes. For instance, Zidedine Zidane, the famous French football player
is considered as an exemple of determination and success for the whole nation
and is an example for children and teenagers. This is also the reason why in
the United States, sports plays such a particular role in education. The premium
is put on team spirit and fighting spirit. Famous universities are proud of
their teams.
All these reasons explain why the Olympic Games are popular all over the world.
However, money plays a growing role in sports. Advertisers use the image of
sportsmen to develop their business and they put pressure on them. For instance,
the Coca Cola company was really part of the Olympic Games in Atlanta. They
always want new records and the revenues of the sportsmen depend on their performances.
The power of money in sport explains why sportmen do not only fight for an ideal
but are also thrust by the lure of money. Sometimes, they also take drugs to
run faster, such as the famous sprinter Ben Johnson. Richard Virenque, the well-known
French biker was also a drug-addict. Not only was it unfair, but it also lead
to health problems.
As a conclusion, sport and the Olympic Games bring very positive values which
are endangered by the power of money. More control of the governments would
be a good signal to prevent big companies from determining the future of sports.
